Sri Hanuman-Perfected Devotee

Sri Tulsi Das wrote Hanuman chalisa in the praise of Hanuman. Though I listen and chant it everyday night before I go into bed & now it's becoming deeper and profound for me. I could see that Sri Tulsi Das has put all the qualities of a perfected devotee in this forty verses song. Also in Narada Bhakti Sutra, Narada Muni included Hanuman among 13 Devotees who have Mastered the path devotion. In this post I have put the Hanuman Chalisa highlighting the qualities which Sri Tulsi Das has quoted in this beautiful song in the praise of Hanuman.

Sri Guru charana saroja raj, Nija mana mukura sudhar,
baranau Raghuvara vimala yasa, Jo dayaka phala char.
Budhiheen thanu jaani ke, Sumeero pavana kumar,
Bala budhi vidhya dehu mohee, Harau klesa bikar.

Four Mahavakyas in Upnishads

In 11 principle Upnishads, Sri Shankaracharya explain the deepest reality of this universe which are guaranteed to alleviate the delusive dual and divided consciousness of any sincere seeker to undivided and universal consciousness. There are four Mahavakyas (great statements) which contain the complete description of unstained reality of seekers consciousness in meditative state as well as after liberation or being one with the infinite consciousness. Just contemplating on these four great statement could be mean to open to new level of consciousness which can exponentially raise our awareness to cut the bondage of misery and to experience the ultimate bliss of samadhi. Here are four great statement and there occurrence as well as there nature of influence on the consciousness.

1. प्रज्ञानं ब्रम्हा (Pragyanam Brahma) means "the self, the consciousness is Brahmans*" or "knowledge (Pragya) is Brahman" (since self itself is all knowing intelligence therefore both the meanings indicate same thing in principle which is all knowing self is Brahman). It has been explained in Aitreya Upnishad and its called लक्षण वाक्य (Lakshana vakya) means which explain the characteristic of Brahman.

2. तत् त्वं असि (Tat tram asi) means "that thou art". It has been explained in Chandogya Upnishad and its called उपदेश वाक्य (Updesha vakya) means which tell the detailed instruction for a seeker about the nature of Brahman.

3. अयं आत्मा ब्रम्हा (Ayam Atma Brahma) means "the self is Brahman". It has been explained in Munduka Upnishad and it's called अनुभव वाक्य (anubhav vakya) means it comes from the direct experience when seeker consciousness unite with Brahman.

4. अहम् ब्रह्मास्मि (Aham brahmasmi) mean "I am Brahman". It has been explained in Brhadaranyaka Upnishad and it's called प्रस्ताव वाक्य (prasthav vakya) means it comes as suggestive statement after merging with the Brahman.

*Brahman is the unchanging, infinite, immanent, and transcendent reality which is the Divine Ground of all matter, energy, time, space, being, and everything beyond in this Universe.

Meditation & its secret-1

Meditation is an art by which one go beyond the reflexive, "thinking" mind into a deeper state of relaxation or awareness where mind dissolve and pure timeless, space less, blissful consciousness BEING which is described as सत्चिदानंद satchidanand (सत् -चित्-आनंद) sat-chit-anand (Truthful-consciousness-blissful) by the enlightened MASTERS.

About Meditation there are so many myths and concepts. And the truth is what you experience that is reality for you. Here in this post "Meditation & its secret-1" and upcoming series of post on this title, I will be writing about my direct experiences of the inner journey, the obstacles and blissful experiences which keep coming as journey goes on :)

As we sit for meditation what we do we sit STILL with EYES CLOSED that is for withdrawing reflexive mind from visionary senses, other obstacle is auditory disturbances (therefore quiet place is preferable). Now journey start as wondering mind has lost most of distractions which it was using as mean of engagement. What happens then where does the mind goes. In reality if you observe silently and give it freedom to wander around then you will find there are majorly two distractions: physical (pain & sensations), mental (pleasant or unpleasant thoughts). There is nothing beyond this where your mind can exist before it come to present and rest & dissolve.

Physical Pain & Sensation: If the awareness is pulled back and again on some part of the body due to pain or sensation, it indicating body need attention. Yoga, stretches and other physical activity help to relieve that stress from the body and mind can calm down. That's why in Patanjali's Ashtanga yoga आसन Asana (Physical yoga) comes before ध्यान dhyan (Meditation).

Mental (Pleasant or unpleasant thoughts): These are even subtle which arises from because of impressions on mind (mind is subtler than body). Either mind is wandering in the thoughts of anger about something we or other person did wrong or we perceive as wrong or worry about the future (submission date or next meeting with boss etc) or thoughts of our dreams, ambitions or achievements what else.... JUST OBSERVE.

Now how to deal with this complex mind which filled with so many thought. Anything related to past which is either pleasant or unpleasant, the knowledge of ever pure, unstained being & untouched self (असंगोहम् पुन: पुन:) HELPS. So reminding yourself again and again I am untouched take away past impressions. Anything related to future's ambitions and achievement realizing the knowledge of nothingness of everything helps mind calm down. Realizing "I am nothing and I don't want anything" is ultimately put the mind to rest.

And I wonder and amazed how my mind come up and dissolves in the that NOTHINGNESS which is described as सत्चिदानंद.

All Glory to My Gurudev
